The Dali Lama said: “By and large, the mind always looks out critically and deals with external events, but rarely bothers about itself. Therefore, we have to give it new instructions. Up to now, you have dealt with what’s going on outside; that’s well and good, but now the time has come to explore within and find out more about the mind itself. In doing so, we also have to make an effort to restrain the way our thoughts follow memories of the past and speculations about the future. We need to find the space between such thoughts, which, like the water deep in the ocean, remains clear and undisturbed even though there may be waves on the surface.” In a world that is so clutter with worries about the economy and politics this is one way to look at the mind itself: it’s definitely not easy, but I think it is worthwhile to try. What do you think?

We have a dream the church is a place where people bring their minds and spirits to worship.

We have a dream the church is a place of hospitality for all people regardless of gender, age, sexual identity, skin color, economic situation, and abilities and disabilities.

We have a dream the church can offer the “alternative wisdom”of Christ instead of the “conventional wisdom” of society.

We have a dream the church is a place to dialogue, disagree, and gather as the Body of Christ.

We have a dream the Presbyterian Church of the Apostles in Burnsville, Minnesota has been called by God to live an authentic, risky, innovative journey of faith serving those who have been oppressed and disenfranchised by society and even the church.

I have a dream God has called me to lead, embrace, and serve the Presbyterian Church of the Apostles on a pilgrimage of mission, transformation, and amazing grace.

Come and join us for an adventure in faith!

Peace for the Journey,

Pastor Joy Smith
